2009 Golden Globes Designer Clothing

On the night of the golden globe an endless parade of elegance from the stars designer clothing, gowns and evening dress overflow. A minimal and safe colors like black, cream and pale shades of silver prevailed.

As the awards night goes on, Kate Winslet, who took home two Globes for acting, looked flawless in a strapless Yves Saint Laurent gown featuring a belt that offered just a touch of sparkle to break up the long column of black. Nominee Amy Adams chose a strapless, black Oscar de la Renta ballgown, keeping the look minimal by forgoing a necklace just like Ms. Winslet did and wearing just earrings.

“Even with such measured styling, there were the inevitable misses on the red carpet. Marisa Tomei's outfit comprising a white, ruffled long-sleeved peasant blouse with a long black skirt managed to convey both "Flamenco dancer" and "pirate" at the same time. "It was a lot of dress for her -- it looked very costumey," sniffs Mr. Julian. And Renee Zellweger drew some criticism for pairing her black Carolina Herrera gown with a piled-up hairdo that exuded "spaghetti western," in Ms. Stephenson's words. ”
